**if you don't read all of the profile, this character won't seem believable**

Name: Emben
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Breed: Palamino Quarter Horse

Appearance: Nearly everything about Emben is a shade of gold; from his golden coat to his gold-bronze tan, and the natural golden highlights in his dirty blonde hair. His eyes, however, are a light chocolate brown. Still, in the sun they might appear golden. Never mind the details, the effect is... complementing. It's also the reason his mother used to call him her 'golden boy'. Combined with the flashing whites of his tail, Emben tends to look rather fake. Or, to be the most polite, too good to be true.

It doesn't help that he seems to have a smile permanently fixed on his face. Or that he's pretty good-looking and has the well-toned body that comes with being a Chosen. Still, most centaurs make good judgements about him based on it. Nobody really thinks he's fake, probably because they all know him, or know about him.

Emben's tail has a natural flare to it, a way he sub-conscieously holds it that makes it twirl and fan out when he moves fast enough. This is envious in centaur culture, as they have little chance for style without clothing. Which would bring us to the style of his hair, which is ultimately a definement of a person where centaurs are considered. Emben wears his hair in a purposely carefree, tousled look. It's easy to maintain and gives off a friendly air.

Personality: As said before, Emben seems fake. And, a lot of the time, he confirms that idea. Because of past events, Emben tends to act very immature, fun-loving, and mischievious. He tells a lot of sarcastic jokes and likes a little bit of daredevil. He does, however, do a good job of keeping group morale up.

Emben is a Chosen, and a good one. He comes from a long line of centaurs with a noted Ability, and he is the third generation to join the cause of saving Thoe as a Chosen. Emben's Ability is strong, and he has a good understanding of it. His Hearing range is pretty impressive, and as such he can understand humans and his fellow Chosens well.

Sometimes, though, when another Chosen tries to talk to him about a thought that just doesn't seem to fit with his personality, he pushes them away. A lot of Chosen think he is incapable of seeing life realistically, instead of the fun way he seems to, and think he's shallow. And he's fine with that assumption.

Another thing Emben's got going for him, seemingly, is that he's athletic. He handles Physical training at Headquarters very well, and is fast enough to beat most. Training dealing with Hearing range is a different story: he hates it. Not near patient enough, and often uses his impressive Hearing range to justify, if only to himself, the noncompliance.

Background: Emben's father, Savet, was a remarkable Chosen. His Hearing range was enormous, and everyone said his leadership saved them from discovery on several occasions. Both he and Nerian, Emben's mother and another retired Chosen, expected much from their son, but it was Savet that was most hopeful for his legacy to be carried on.

Savet trained his son in things that would have been helpful to him when he was a Chosen. When Emben began to run faster and swim harder than the other foals, Savet was filled with pride. Nerian and Savet inspired him with stories of when they had been Chosen, and the morale was always something to be careful with about humans.

As time rolled on, Emben began showing prominent interest and talent in swimming. Thinking as a father and a true supporter of the Thoe defense, Savet began teaching him to use it to his advantage. He began with a story from his Chosen years, when his fellow centaurs and he had been scouting near a lake and had to make a quick getaway. Most of them made it to their ship from the lake, having trained to swim without a splash. But one did not, and he drown.

Savet told this story to Emben many times and began training him so rigorously that it worried Nerian. In truth, Savet had been trying to make up for his friend's death, because he believed it was his fault. And, kicked on by fear of the same happening to his son because of him, Emben became the fastest, most silent swimmer his father had ever seen.

But it scared Emben, his father's story; it made him realize how dangerous the life of a Chosen is. How they had to keep secret even if it meant leaving their friends to die. And he was afraid of the responsibility and the expectations. Savet grew increasingly impatient as they neared Emben's thirteenth birthday; he asked everyday if Emben was getting headaches.

And so, terrified now by the idea, Emben didn't tell his father when his Ability began showing. Everyday he just shook his head, looking down just in case Savet could see it in his eyes. Then, approximately a week from his birthday, Savet took Emben down to do more water training. Nerian followed to assess his progress, and because it was becoming the only time Emben smiled.

When he playfully asked her to join him in the Chratc river, show him what she could do, Nerian couldn't help but accept. All was fine, happier than ever actually, until the current quickened due to a small ocean storm nearby. And Nerian, just a fingertip's length away from Emben, was swept away and bashed into a rock. She died instantly.

Since then, as Emben's remarkable Ability was discovered and he became a Chosen, he has never been the same. He dealt with Nerian's death by refusing it, keeping himself happy on the surface. Thus creating his fake appearance. No centaur, excluding his father, knows exactly what happened that day but they know enough not to ask. As for Savet, well, let's just say he and Emben aren't exactly on good terms anymore.

Other: After Nerian's death, Emben (like so many other Centaurs) made a lifelong friend in an animal. Centaurs are said to have a special way with animals, and Emben's little friend is a spider monkey named Ner. Though they are apart when Emben's on Call, Ner has a habit of staying near him at all times. Often he uses his shoulder as a perch, and the little monkey is famed for mischief. He looks a little something like this:
